Error messages
Product error messages that balance useful recovery guidance with a recognisable brand voice.

At a glance
- The challenge
Help users recover from an error without losing the brand voice.
- My role
UX Writing postgraduate project
- What I did
Microcopy · Error recovery · Tone adaptation
- Outcome
Clear next steps adapted to four different brand voices.
Context
This postgraduate exercise explored two common problems: being offline and trying to register with an email that already has an account.
Approach
I wrote offline messages for Ballena Blanca and Ecosia, and account messages for Too Good To Go and Wezero. Each version explains what happened, supports recovery and keeps the brand’s tone present without letting personality obscure the action.
Learning
Good error copy answers three questions quickly: what happened, what it means and what the user can do now.
